Glad you boys got some on the second day, I heard the reports the first day and felt big time bad for you guys.

Half-Breed,

I don't talk too much........... I just will not be IGNORED I really had a great time and wish I could have hunted with all of you. What a great bunch of guy's.

To the people who didn't go:

A hand full of us had a less than perfect hunt the first day. And the other 2 groups slaughtered 'em. EVERY single one of them felt truly bad for us, and told us how sorry they were. Each and every one of them is a true SPORTSMAN as far as I am concerned. These are the kind of people you meet here on the refuge. I look fwd to next time.............jpac

No, I had a bad case of the flu and didn't want to give it to anyone, plus I was tired and run down. Even so, I'm not a real talkative guy most of the time but my mind is usually running on warp speed.

Glad all you boys had a good time at the Refuge hunt. I enjoyed meeting each and everyone of you boys and only wish I had been able to make the rounds more and maybe got to know you a little better. Two days is not enough time to spend with such a large group.

The best part of the entire trip for me was finally putting some faces with the names and I’m the first to admit that only a few stuck. I see the pictures you guys are posting and can’t remember who they are or how they log on to the refuge. None the less you were a great bunch of people.
We came back from our morning Duck blind sitting to people I felt were truly sorry that we didn’t have an opportunity to take birds. (Well birds we thought worthy of shooting)
I was most upset when I found my friends from the north had been the only group not to kill many geese the first day but was real glad to see that they rebounded well.

Below is a picture of our first morning duck hunt. Our guide informed us that we were hunting public land and that he had not scouted the day before because he was with another group. (We knew we were in for trouble) Look close at the first pictures it is simply amazing at the amount of birds that were moving that morning.

This is a picture of the guide picking up what is left of his spinner…. Hehehe best $40.00 I ever spent.

More Ducks in real numbers……WOW!

So much Action the dog fell out….

Afternoon hunt was another story …
We thought we were going to a preserve to hunt Pheasant/quail/Chuckar like the ad said only to find out that it was not a Preserve but a planting of birds and that it was only Chuckar…OH MY GOD!

Wes and Duckhunt4 at their finest.

Next Day we had a Goose hunt planned and was the highlight of the weekend.

Thanks for a great time boys. Even with all I felt was wrong it was worth it to meet the Mob.

The Birds are finally moving in here in real numbers and I’m glad to be home hunting the way I know how. I have had mallard limits everyday since I got back home but I’m having trouble getting the third party birds to work our area.

For you PA boys I talked to Ramsey on the Cell Phone yesterday and he said we are on for next season…… Be there..

I’ll check back in the day before Christmas…

Dan

In Texas a "Preserve" is a licensed area where birds can be stocked for the purpose of hunting. The license allows the birds to be hunting year around and no limits apply.

Pheasant, Quail and Chuckar are the usual game birds that are available, but often the game bird farms run out of some species during the year....especially pheasant. I don't know how early you made your request for pheasant, but usually with enough lead time, they can located and be shipped in from somewhere.

Best quote from the hunt....

On Friday, our party of 7 killed 65 geese and stopped hunting at 9:00.

Mike Ladnier, the owner of Bay Prairie, was laying down on the left side of the spread behind Duck Lorange, Oxbow and myself, and he said if the guys on the right side had shot like us there would have been 100 geese on the ground

Funny thing is he said the same thing when he was on the right side of the spread about the left hand side.

Funny how Mike could tell who shot which goose when he spent most of the time 200 yards from the spread walking his "retriever" out to each downed bird.

Thought I'd post a pic of where ole AQ was in the spread .....he is the third guy in completely laying down and covered up. Seems to me he was 15 yards from me with two people in between us...this would put "dead eye" about 5-6 yards from the "right" side of the spread.

Glad you shot so well for a guy with the flu.
