Food Plots arround a pond????

Question for you duck hunters out there.
I have a friend who will let me hunt on his ponds. I have seen ducks there but I have not benn duck hunting for many years.
He would probable let me plant something arrround the pond for the ducks to eat but I do not know what to plant or if that is even legal?
