Robert Earl Keen -- What I Really Mean

Post by redfish76 »

New album available May 10. I heard a familiar voice, but unfamiliar song on the radio the other day. I'm assuming it was a track off this new CD. Not sure which one, but I liked it.

Picked up the CD and listened to it over the weekend. The album definitely does not transition all the way back to the "old" Robert Earl, but he gives glimpes that he may be planning a comeback to the style that spawned "Texas Music" as we know it. There are still some very artistic pieces on the album. It seems to me that Robert Earl is still in the middle of an "inspired" crative period, much like the Beatles went through (see "Mr. Wolf and Mamabear" and "The Great Hank").

Overall, it is a good album. I tend to prefer the old REK, but if you can get past some of the crazy lyrics, the music can be quite enjoyable.
